Description
Posterior anatomy of the male encephalon is rendered with the occipital poles of the cerebrum positioned superiorly and the cerebellar hemispheres and vermis lying inferior and posterior within the posterior cranial fossa. Deep to the cerebral cortex, the corpus callosum arches in the midline, with the thalamus forming a paired, medial mass beneath it and the hypothalamus located anteroinferior to the thalamus at the floor of the third ventricle region. Inferiorly, the brainstem descends in continuity from midbrain to pons to medulla oblongata, with cranial nerve root entry and exit zones suggested along its lateral margins.
