Description
Anterior abdominal anatomy is presented on an upright female child model with the abdominal wall rendered transparent to reveal the small intestine. The duodenum occupies the superior abdomen, curving from the pyloric region toward the left before descending, after which jejunal loops cluster more in the left upper and central abdomen. Ileal coils lie more inferiorly and to the right, with distal ileum trending toward the right iliac fossa where it would meet the cecum at the ileocecal junction. Superficial body contours remain visible, orienting the bowel to the pediatric torso in anatomical position. Pediatric context matters. In children, the small intestine’s length, mesenteric laxity, and relatively small abdominal cavity help explain why obstructive patterns can present early and why distension rapidly affects feeding and respiration.
