Description
Centered in the anterior neck, the median thyrohyoid ligament appears as a dense midline thickening of the thyrohyoid membrane spanning between the inferior border of the hyoid bone (corpus ossis hyoidei) superiorly and the superior margin of the thyroid cartilage (cartilago thyroidea) inferiorly, immediately anterior to the laryngeal inlet. Lateral to this midline band, the broader thyrohyoid membrane fans toward the greater horns of the hyoid, framing the superior thyroid notch and the laryngeal prominence in a typical adult male configuration. Inferiorly, the cricoid cartilage and proximal tracheal rings align in the midline beneath the thyroid cartilage. Red-toned intrinsic and strap muscle elements sit superficially and laterally, with the epiglottis rising superiorly behind the hyoid line. Clear midline anatomy.
