Medullary renal pyramids project centrally, their papillae pointing toward minor calyces that merge into major calyces and the renal pelvis. Blue collecting spaces occupy the renal sinus and sit medial to the parenchyma, tracing the urine outflow pathway toward the ureteric origin at the hilum. Corticomedullary junctions and renal columns between pyramids read clearly. Seeing cortex and medulla in one plane matters when you need to explain where filtration ends and urine concentration begins, and how that anatomy fails.
