Description
Framed on the posterior shoulder girdle, the animation centers on the acromial angle at the lateral end of the scapular spine where it meets the lateral border of the acromion. As the scapula rotates in space, the acromion sweeps anterolaterally over the glenoid cavity, and the acromial angle becomes a fixed bony corner you can track relative to the spine of the scapula. Surrounding landmarks are introduced in sequence, including the medial border and inferior angle of the scapula, the supraspinous and infraspinous fossae separated by the scapular spine, and the acromioclavicular region at the acromion’s distal facet. Orientation stays grounded in anatomical position, with the acromial angle shown lateral to the vertebral (medial) border and superior to the inferior angle. Palpation and radiographic localization of the acromial angle matter in both teaching and clinic because it anchors surface anatomy of the shoulder and helps define the contour of the acromion implicated in subacromial impingement.
