Description
This rendering shows a human fetus at approximately 26 weeks of gestation lying in a flexed, head-down attitude within the amniotic sac. The large domed cranium dominates the body proportions, with fine scalp hair, a well-modelled external ear (auricle), and closed eyelids in shallow relief. The upper limb is drawn across the chest so that the hand and separated fingers meet the raised foot and toes, while the curved contour of the spine and the drawn-up thighs illustrate the physiological flexion of the third trimester.
