Description
Viewed from the left side, the pulmonary surface of the heart is dominated by the left ventricle, with a smaller contribution from the left atrium superiorly near the base. The obtuse (left) margin runs from the left auricle toward the apex, which points inferiorly and to the left in anatomical position. Anteriorly, the sternocostal surface transitions around the left border, while posteriorly the base relates to the pulmonary veins entering the left atrium. Epicardial grooves marking the coronary sulcus and the anterior and posterior interventricular sulci define the boundaries between chambers.
