Description
Oriented in left positional view, the inferior (diaphragmatic) surface of the heart is presented without the great vessels, leaving the ventricular contours and grooves unobstructed. The right ventricle forms much of the anterior-inferior aspect, while the left ventricle contributes the more posterior and leftward diaphragmatic contact, creating the broad footprint that rests on the central tendon of the diaphragm. The posterior interventricular sulcus tracks toward the crux of the heart, and the atrioventricular (coronary) sulcus marks the junction between the ventricles and the atrial base, even when the atria themselves are minimally expressed from this surface.
