Description
Running along the outer contour of the adult male colon, the taenia libera (free tenia) is presented as the most anterior or externally facing of the three taeniae coli, a longitudinal smooth muscle band that stands in relief against the haustrated colonic wall. Relative to the other bands, it occupies a more superficial, ventral position, while the taenia mesocolica aligns with mesenteric attachment and the taenia omentalis tracks the greater omentum on transverse and sigmoid segments.
