Running along the medial aspect of the proximal leg, the inferior medial genicular artery arises from the popliteal artery in the popliteal fossa and curves anteriorly deep to the medial head of gastrocnemius toward the medial tibial condyle. Its course passes inferior to the medial tibial plateau and close to the medial collateral ligament, with perforating branches contributing to the periarticular genicular anastomosis around the knee.
