Description
Centered on a pediatric male torso with a translucent anterior window, the esophagus descends through the neck and posterior mediastinum to enter the stomach at the gastroesophageal junction. The stomach lies in the left upper quadrant, inferior to the left hemidiaphragm and left lobe of the liver, with the fundus positioned superiorly and laterally and the pyloric region directed inferiorly and medially toward the proximal duodenum. Curvature is clear, the greater curvature sweeping inferolaterally and the lesser curvature tracking superomedially toward the esophageal inlet. Orientation matters. Pediatric stomach position and axis shift with respiration and gastric filling, and this front-facing body-context view helps anchor that variability to fixed landmarks, the diaphragm above, the costal margin anterolaterally, and the midline as reference. Clinically, the depiction supports teaching gastroesophageal reflux disease and hiatal hernia concepts by making the intra-abdominal segment of esophagus and the angle of His easy to locate, a frequent point of discussion when interpreting an upper GI contrast study or planning antireflux surgery.
