Description
Posterior superficial and intermediate back musculature is rendered beneath the skin of an adult male, centered on the midline spinous processes and extending laterally to the scapulae and posterior axillary folds. Superiorly, the trapezius spans from the occipital region and nuchal ligament toward the acromion and scapular spine, while the rhomboid major and minor sit deep to it, running from the thoracic spinous processes to the medial border of the scapula. Inferior and lateral, the latissimus dorsi sweeps superolaterally from the thoracolumbar fascia and iliac crest toward the humerus, framing the posterior trunk; medial to it, the erector spinae columns (iliocostalis, longissimus, spinalis) form paired paraspinal masses on either side of the vertebral column. A small portion of the posterior deltoid is visible over the shoulder. Fiber direction is clear.
