Description
Centered within a transparent abdominal window of a standing female child, the colon frames the small intestine in its typical pediatric configuration: cecum and ascending colon in the right lower and right lateral abdomen, transverse colon crossing the upper abdomen, and descending colon tracking inferiorly along the left flank toward the sigmoid colon and rectum in the left lower quadrant and pelvis. Medially, jejunal and ileal loops occupy most of the central abdomen, converging distally on the ileocecal junction. The greater omentum and solid viscera are not emphasized, keeping attention on bowel topography and continuity. Orientation is straightforward.
