Description
Anterior lower limbs are presented in anatomical position from mid-thigh to feet, with the femora descending to knees that angle laterally, creating the characteristic genu varum contour. The tibiae and fibulae continue inferiorly with the medial malleoli relatively closer together than the femoral condyles, so the intercondylar distance exceeds the intermalleolar distance when the feet are aligned forward. Distally, the ankles and feet are shown with neutral toe orientation, supporting assessment of tibial torsion and overall rotational profile. Genu varum shifts the lower-limb mechanical axis medially, increasing load across the medial tibiofemoral compartment while the lateral collateral ligament complex tends to appear relatively taut and the medial collateral ligament relatively slack in stance. Use this anterior view in musculoskeletal anatomy and kinesiology teaching to anchor discussions of normal versus pathologic knee alignment, Q-angle misconceptions, and the relationship between coronal deformity and gait mechanics.
