Raphe pallidus nucleus occupies the ventromedial medulla and is highlighted in lateral profile as a slender, vertical sheet of neurons tucked between the paired medullary pyramids. From this fixed perspective, the pyramids form a prominent anterior landmark, while the raphe cell column sits immediately dorsal to the ventral surface and medial to the adjacent reticular formation. Superior continuity toward the pontomedullary junction is implied by the elongate orientation, and the nucleus remains close to the midline despite the lateral viewpoint.
