Description
Cuboid bone anatomy is centered on the calcaneal process in this inferior (plantar) view, where a posteriorly directed projection extends toward the calcaneus at the lateral midfoot. From this fixed perspective, the plantar surface of the cuboid sits anterior to the calcaneus and lateral to the navicular region, with the calcaneocuboid joint line implied along the posterior articular margin. Adjacent plantar landmarks that are typically appreciable in this orientation include the cuboid tuberosity and the oblique groove for the tendon of fibularis (peroneus) longus, which crosses plantar-medially after coursing behind the lateral malleolus. Lateral column mechanics hinge on this junction.
