Description

Anterior full-body rendering of an adult female in anatomical position, with the integument made translucent to foreground the central and peripheral nervous systems. Superiorly, the encephalon occupies the cranial cavity and continues inferiorly as the spinal cord within the vertebral canal, giving rise to paired spinal nerves that exit segmentally and course laterally to form cervical, brachial, lumbar, and sacral plexuses. Distally, named peripheral nerves extend into the upper limb toward the hand and into the lower limb toward the foot, while intercostal nerves track along the thoracic wall and anterior rami contribute to the innervation of the anterior trunk. An anterior perspective like this clarifies how the central axis (brainstem and spinal cord) relates to the distribution territories of the peripheral nervous system, which is the framework clinicians use to localize neurologic lesions. Radicular pain from cervical or lumbar disc herniation, brachial plexus traction injury, and length-dependent peripheral neuropathy all become easier to teach when the viewer can follow the proximal-to-distal continuity of nerve pathways and compare left-right symmetry at a glance. Good for pattern recognition. It also supports correlation with dermatomes and myotomes when discussing segmental spinal nerve roots. Use this artwork in undergraduate neuroanatomy and gross anatomy courses, OSCE teaching sheets for sensory and motor screening, and neurology or physiatry publications that need a clean overview of CNS to PNS organization in a female body habitus. It also works well for patient-facing education on sciatica, carpal tunnel syndrome, or generalized neuropathy when paired with simplified callouts.
