Description
Arising from the medial supraorbital region, the depressor supercilii appears as a small muscular slip deep to the skin at the superomedial rim of the orbit, positioned inferior to the medial fibers of frontalis and adjacent to the glabella. Medially it blends with the procerus and the superficial fibromuscular plane, while laterally it lies close to the orbital part of orbicularis oculi and near the course of the corrugator supercilii as it tracks toward the eyebrow. Superiorly the brow tissues and frontalis dominate, and inferiorly the upper eyelid and orbital septum define the boundary of the palpebral region. Fiber direction is short and oblique. Easy to miss. Functional anatomy around the medial eyebrow matters because small changes in balance between frontalis (elevation) and depressors (depression and medial draw) drive the classic glabellar frown pattern.
