Description
Dorsal cochlear nucleus (nucleus cochlearis dorsalis) occupies the dorsolateral medulla at the pontomedullary junction, forming a distinct surface elevation along the medial aspect of the inferior cerebellar peduncle (restiform body). Medially, the contour lies adjacent to the floor of the fourth ventricle and the dorsal medullary tegmentum, while laterally it approaches the cerebellopontine angle region where the cochlear division of the vestibulocochlear nerve (CN VIII) enters the brainstem. Superior and posterior relationships to the cerebellar hemisphere and peduncular fiber bundles help orient the nucleus within the brainstem-cerebellar interface. The bulge is unmistakable.
