Description

Anterior palmar anatomy of the male hand is presented with the hypothenar compartment in focus, where the abductor digiti minimi (highlighted) lies most ulnarly and superficially along the medial border of the palm. Deep and slightly radial to it, the flexor digiti minimi brevis runs from the hook of hamate and flexor retinaculum toward the base of the proximal phalanx of the little finger, aligning with the fifth metacarpal. Proximally at the wrist, the palmar tendons and retinacular region frame the transition into the hand, while the bony landmarks of the carpus and metacarpus provide orientation for the ulnar side. This anterior perspective matters when teaching or planning procedures around the ulnar tunnel (Guyon canal), where the ulnar nerve and artery course just radial to pisiform and over the hook of hamate, adjacent to the hypothenar muscles.
