Description
Greater wing of the sphenoid (ala major) dominates the inferior aspect of the central skull base in this image, with the rough infratemporal surface facing the viewer and the thicker posterior margin tapering toward the sphenoidal spine. Medially, the greater wing meets the body of the sphenoid where the foramen rotundum opens anteromedially, while the larger foramen ovale lies posterolateral to it on the same inferior surface. Farther posterior and lateral, the smaller foramen spinosum sits near the base of the sphenoidal spine, marking the transition toward the petrous and squamous regions of the temporal bone in situ. Margins for adjacent spaces are legible. These apertures are high-yield landmarks for neurovascular transit and skull base intervention.
