Description
Groove for the superior petrosal sinus tracks along the superior border (petrous ridge) of the petrous part of the temporal bone, viewed from the posterior aspect of the skull base. From this fixed posterior perspective, the channel sits at the junction between the posterior surface of the petrous temporal bone and the attached margin of the tentorium cerebelli, running obliquely from the petroclinoid region toward the posterolateral margin of the posterior cranial fossa. Adjacent landmarks you would expect in the same field include the mastoid portion laterally and the smooth endocranial surface of the temporal bone medial to the posterior cranial fossa.
