Seen in lateral profile, the tibia and fibula descend to the ankle mortise and articulate with the talus, with the calcaneus forming the posterior heel and the cuboid and lateral cuneiform supporting the lateral longitudinal arch. Distally, the metatarsals and phalanges align in the forefoot, with joint cartilage indicated at the tibiotalar, subtalar, midtarsal, tarsometatarsal, and metatarsophalangeal levels. Superimposed blue vascular tracks plausibly follow the course of the dorsalis pedis artery across the dorsum toward the first intermetatarsal space and the lateral marginal vein continuing proximally as the small saphenous vein posterior to the lateral malleolus.
