Description
Anterior craniofacial anatomy is centered on the bony orbit, with the globe seated within the orbital cavity and encircled by the extraocular muscle cone. Arterial branches of the ophthalmic artery course anteriorly and medially along the orbital walls, while accompanying veins track a similar path before draining posteriorly toward the superior and inferior ophthalmic veins. Fine yellow nerve branches radiate around the globe, consistent with the optic nerve entering posteriorly at the orbital apex and sensory contributions from the ophthalmic division of the trigeminal nerve along the superior orbit. Color coding separates arteries, veins, and nerves at a glance. Understanding these relationships matters in ophthalmology and ENT because the orbit is a closed compartment bounded by thin bones, and small changes in volume can threaten vision.
