Angled within an opened calvaria, the lateral orbitofrontal artery is traced as a small cortical branch running along the inferior frontal region near the orbital surface of the frontal lobe, positioned anterior to the insular territory and lateral to the olfactory groove. Red arterial channels course over the frontal convexity and basal frontal surface, while blue venous pathways mirror them superficially and converge toward the dural venous sinuses along the midline and posterior cranial cavity. Relative to the midline, the highlighted vessel sits laterally, approaching the frontal pole and skirting the orbital gyri in the anterior cranial fossa. Scale matters here. It is a fine-caliber branch. Understanding the orbitofrontal arterial pattern helps when correlating inferior frontal contusions with focal ischemia, because this territory often lies at the interface between anterior cerebral artery and middle cerebral artery cortical supply and can be variably developed between individuals.
