Description
Centered on the male pelvic girdle, the illustration brings the right and left os coxae into clear relief, with the ilium flaring superiorly to the iliac crests, the ischial bodies and tuberosities positioned posteroinferiorly, and the pubic bodies meeting anteriorly at the pubic symphysis. Inferior lumbar vertebrae and the lumbosacral junction sit superior and medial to the sacrum, framing the pelvic inlet. Laterally, each acetabulum faces inferolateral to receive the femoral head, continuing distally into the femoral neck and proximal shaft. Capsular thickening and major ligamentous bands around the hip are suggested at the joint margins. Pelvic anatomy reads differently when you anchor it to function and injury. This view helps you teach why the acetabulum’s orientation and the femoral neck-shaft relationship matter in femoroacetabular impingement, and why a displaced intracapsular femoral neck fracture carries risk to the retinacular vessels supplying the femoral head.
