Description
Posteriorly, the male skeleton is presented with the cranial vault and cervical vertebrae leading into the thoracic and lumbar spine, where the spinous processes form a clear midline ridge. Paired scapulae sit posterolateral to the thoracic cage, their spines running obliquely toward the acromia, while the clavicles and proximal humeri frame the shoulder girdle laterally. Inferiorly, the sacrum and posterior pelvis anchor the vertebral column, and the femora descend from the acetabula with the tibiae positioned medial to the fibulae in the leg. Bony landmarks read cleanly. This posterior perspective matters when you need surface and deep landmarks for the back, from palpating the medial border and inferior angle of the scapula to orienting levels along T7 to T9, to teaching how the thoracic kyphosis and lumbar lordosis align over the sacrum in neutral stance.
