Lateral parabrachial nucleus (nucleus parabrachialis lateralis) occupies the dorsolateral pontine tegmentum, positioned just ventral to the superior cerebellar peduncle and lateral to the periaqueductal gray as it narrows toward the rostral fourth ventricle. From this posterior viewpoint, the nucleus is localized along the lateral margin of the rostral pons, where the parabrachial complex abuts the brachium conjunctivum and sits near the Kölliker-Fuse region at the pontomesencephalic junction. Medially, the expected relationship is toward the medial parabrachial subdivision and central tegmental field; laterally, the topography trends toward the lateral lemniscus and adjacent pontine reticular formation.
