Description
Viewed in lateral profile, the mandible is shown in articulation with the temporal bone at the temporomandibular joint, with the mandibular body extending anteriorly to the symphysis and posteriorly to the ramus, angle, and coronoid and condylar processes. Along the alveolar part of the mandible, the mandibular dentition is arranged from anterior incisors to canine, premolars, and the first through third molars, with the posterior teeth emphasized to draw attention to occlusal morphology. Rooted teeth sit inferior to their crowns within the alveoli, and the pulp space is implied within the dentin beneath the enamel. Bony context includes the maxilla, zygomatic arch, orbit, nasal aperture, and the parietal and occipital bones forming the lateral cranial vault.
