Positioned on the inferoposterior aspect of the temporal bone, the mastoid process projects inferiorly and slightly posterior to the external acoustic meatus, forming a palpable prominence in the lateral skull. Along its superior border, the animation tracks the temporal line and the squamous part of the temporal bone as they sweep anteriorly, while the zygomatic process extends forward to meet the zygomatic bone.
