Description
Semi-transparent cardiac rendering centers on the coronary arterial tree over the epicardial surface of an adult male heart, with the right coronary artery tracking in the right atrioventricular (coronary) sulcus and the left main coronary artery dividing into the anterior interventricular branch (left anterior descending) and the circumflex branch. Curving leftward and posteriorly, the circumflex artery follows the left atrioventricular groove toward the crux, giving obtuse marginal branches that descend on the lateral wall of the left ventricle. Fine arterioles extend distally into the myocardium while companion coronary veins course in parallel, draining toward the coronary sinus. Autonomic nerve pathways are superimposed as yellow cords around the great vessels and atria. Clear landmarks. Clinical interpretation starts with course and dominance. This view makes it easy to relate circumflex territory to posterolateral left ventricular ischemia and to the typical angiographic challenge of detecting lesions that hide along the atrioventricular groove, where atherosclerotic narrowing can compromise obtuse marginals and produce lateral-wall ST changes. The proximity of epicardial nerves and the left atrial region also supports teaching around perioperative arrhythmias and conduction effects during mitral valve surgery, where traction and atrial incisions sit near autonomic plexuses even when the coronary arteries remain intact. Cardiology and anatomy instructors can drop this plate into coronary circulation lectures to link named branches to perfusion territories, or into clinical skills modules on interpreting coronary angiograms and CT coronary angiography by matching projected vessel paths to true 3D relationships.
