Description
Anterior presentation of the male head and upper neck emphasizes the paired common carotid arteries ascending within the carotid sheaths, then dividing near the superior border of the thyroid cartilage into the internal carotid artery (deep, posterolateral) and external carotid artery (more superficial, anteromedial). Superiorly, external carotid branches course across the face, including the facial artery winding along the mandible toward the oral commissure and nose, and the superficial temporal artery ascending anterior to the auricle toward the scalp. Midline and paramedian cranial vessels are shown in relation to the skull and upper cervical spine, with vertebral arteries tracking superiorly through the transverse foramina before contributing to posterior cranial circulation. Bone provides the frame. Arterial relationships in this projection matter because they match what clinicians palpate, compress, or ligate in real time, from locating a superficial temporal pulse to controlling facial bleeding along the mandibular body.
