Description
Obliquely oriented around the ocular globe, the four to six vorticose veins (venae vorticosae) emerge from the choroid and pierce the sclera near the equator, forming a near-symmetric pattern in the superotemporal, inferotemporal, superonasal, and inferonasal quadrants. Their scleral exit points sit posterior to the limbus and anterior to the optic nerve head, then course posteriorly within the orbit to drain into the superior and inferior ophthalmic veins. Surrounding context from the skull model logically includes the orbital rim of the frontal bone and zygomatic bone laterally, the maxilla inferiorly, and adjacent facial venous pathways rendered in blue alongside arterial branches in red. Choroidal venous outflow matters because it governs how the uveal tract decompressed during changes in intraocular pressure and during surgical manipulation of the extraocular muscles.
