Nucleus basalis of Meynert occupies the ventral basal forebrain within the substantia innominata, positioned inferior to the globus pallidus and anterior to the hypothalamic region in this sagittal section. Its neuronal cluster lies medial to the insular and claustral territory and sits near the anterior perforated substance at the base of the cerebral hemispheres. From this fixed profile, adjacent deep landmarks such as the corpus callosum superiorly and the diencephalon posteriorly help orient the nucleus within the ventral striatopallidal complex.
