Description
Centered on the proximal tibia, the sequence holds a posterior (rear) view on the intercondylar area between the medial and lateral condyles of the tibial plateau. The intercondylar eminence (tibial spine) rises superiorly, with the medial and lateral intercondylar tubercles separating the intercondylar region from the articular surfaces of each condyle. As the camera settles and subtly rotates, the posterior intercondylar area comes into relief just inferior to the posterior margins of the plateau, oriented medial to lateral across the midline of the bone. Posterior tibial plateau landmarks matter when you are localizing cruciate ligament attachments and planning tunnel placement or fixation in knee reconstruction. From an anatomic standpoint, the intercondylar area anchors the anterior and posterior cruciate ligaments and the anterior and posterior horns of the menisci, relationships that are hard to appreciate from an anterior view or a single still. Motion in the animation clarifies how the tibial spine sits between the condyles and why a tibial spine (intercondylar eminence) avulsion can mimic ACL injury on exam while representing a different injury pattern and fixation problem. Use this clip in gross anatomy labs, orthopaedic teaching on tibial plateau fracture patterns and arthroscopic orientation, or as a figure substitute in knee ligament reconstruction chapters where posterior bony landmarks guide safe trajectories. It also pairs well with radiology content when correlating posterior tibial plateau anatomy to sagittal MRI and CT reconstructions. Anatomical accuracy verified by SciePro's Medical Advisory Board.
