Description

The heart sits medial to both lungs within the pericardial sac, its great vessels, including the ascending aorta and superior vena cava, rising superiorly and slightly rightward relative to the cardiac silhouette. Only a portion of the right lung is exposed, emphasizing the bronchial tree against the mediastinal contour. That mediastinal relationship matters in daily practice. A frontal view that keeps the trachea, carina, and proximal bronchi in register with the heart and great vessels mirrors how clinicians mentally map airway anatomy during bronchoscopy, endotracheal intubation, and interpretation of chest radiographs and CT scouts.
