Description
Mid-thoracic anatomy centers on the T7 vertebra in lateral profile, with the vertebral body positioned anteriorly and the vertebral arch and laminae sweeping posteriorly to form a long, inferiorly sloping spinous process typical of the thoracic region. Superior and inferior articular processes project at the junction of pedicle and lamina, creating the zygapophysial (facet) joints, while the pedicles define the intervertebral foramen between adjacent levels. The intervertebral discs lie between successive vertebral bodies, so the T6–T7 and T7–T8 disc spaces bracket the highlighted level. Costal facets for rib articulation are expected on the body and transverse process in this region, even when not the main emphasis. A lateral section at T7 matters because this is where thoracic kyphosis and posterior element morphology intersect with clinical decision-making, from interpreting mid-back trauma films to planning percutaneous instrumentation.
