Description
Anterior osteologic view of an adult female skeleton, from cranium to feet, with the skull positioned superior to the cervical, thoracic, and lumbar vertebral column and centered over the sacrum. The clavicles span laterally from the manubrium to the acromia, framing the scapulae laterally, while the sternum lies in the midline anterior to the thoracic vertebrae and receives the costal cartilages of ribs 1 through 7. Inferiorly, the pelvic girdle is shown as paired os coxae (ilium, ischium, and pubis) articulating with the sacrum at the sacroiliac joints and meeting at the pubic symphysis; femora descend from the acetabula to the knees, continuing distally through tibiae and fibulae to the tarsals, metatarsals, and phalanges. Clear alignment. No distracting soft tissue. Female skeletal morphology is often taught through the pelvis, and an anterior view makes the broader subpubic angle, wider pelvic inlet, and laterally flared iliac crests easier to appreciate in relation to the sacrum and acetabula. That context matters clinically when correlating pelvic dimensions with obstetric mechanics, and when distinguishing normal variants from fractures around the pubic rami or acetabulum on trauma radiographs. Upper limb positioning also supports discussions of common fracture patterns, such as distal radius (Colles) fractures, and the way rib and sternal landmarks guide surface anatomy for ECG lead placement and thoracostomy.
