Description
Presented in upright anatomical position, a male child is rendered with a left-sided cutaway that brings the axial and appendicular skeleton into view. The calvaria and facial skeleton sit superior to the cervical, thoracic, and lumbar vertebrae, with the rib cage wrapping anteriorly around the thoracic cavity and articulating posteriorly at the costovertebral joints. Inferior to the vertebral column, the bony pelvis supports the proximal femur at the acetabulum, and the lower limb continues distally through femur, tibia, and fibula to the tarsals, metatarsals, and phalanges; the upper limb aligns from clavicle and scapula to humerus, radius, and ulna. Long bone proportions read as pediatric, with joint regions implying cartilaginous epiphyses and open physes. Pediatric osseous anatomy is not just a smaller adult skeleton, and the cutaway format makes that teaching point easy to land. Open growth plates at the distal radius, proximal humerus, distal femur, and proximal tibia are where Salter-Harris fractures occur, and this view supports discussions of why these injuries can disturb longitudinal growth or lead to angular deformity if reduced poorly.
