Inferior Ischial Ramus

Description

Inferior ischial ramus forms the posteroinferior limb of the ischiopubic ramus, coursing anteromedially from the ischial tuberosity to meet the inferior pubic ramus at the anterior margin of the obturator foramen. From this fixed perspective, the roughened lateral surface and the sharper medial border can be appreciated as distinct planes, with the obturator foramen lying superior and slightly anterior to the thickened perineal margin. Cortical thickness increases toward the tuberosity, while the anterior end narrows as it blends with the pubic component. Bony landmarks read cleanly. Clinically, the inferior pubic and ischial rami are frequent fracture sites in low-energy falls in older adults and in athletic avulsion or stress patterns, and their alignment is a key check on AP pelvis radiographs and CT reconstructions when you suspect an anterior pelvic ring injury.
