Description

Anterior torso anatomy is rendered with the skin semi-transparent, centering the lower respiratory tract in situ. Superiorly, the pharynx continues into the laryngeal inlet and trachea, which descends in the midline and bifurcates at the carina into the right and left main bronchi. Each bronchus enters the lung at the hilum, then branches into lobar and segmental bronchi that arborize laterally and inferiorly within the pulmonary parenchyma; the cardiac silhouette is faintly suggested medial to the left lung. Clear depiction of the tracheal bifurcation matters because the carina is both a bronchoscopic landmark and a referral point for pathology. Mainstem intubation most often advances into the right main bronchus because it is wider and more vertical, a practical correlate when explaining unilateral breath sounds and ipsilateral atelectasis on the opposite side. The same geometry underlies common foreign body aspiration patterns and guides sampling during bronchoscopy for suspected endobronchial lesions. Educators can drop this artwork into anatomy and physiology modules on airflow conduction, bronchial tree branching, and the relationship of lungs to mediastinal structures in a female thorax with realistic surface context. It also fits respiratory therapy training, bronchoscopy orientation slides, and patient-facing materials discussing airway procedures or aspiration risk where representative depiction of a Black woman improves inclusivity without sacrificing anatomic fidelity. Anatomical accuracy verified by SciePro's Medical Advisory Board.
