Description
Zygomatic process of the temporal bone forms the posterior root of the zygomatic arch in this inferior perspective, projecting anteriorly from the squamous temporal region toward its articulation with the zygomatic bone. The process sits lateral to the mandibular fossa and anterior to the external acoustic meatus, with its inferior surface defining the bony contour immediately above the temporomandibular joint (TMJ). Medially, the temporal surface transitions toward the petrotympanic region, while the lateral margin outlines the arch’s slender bridge over the infratemporal space. Orientation is fixed to emphasize the undersurface and anterior sweep of the process. Fracture patterns of the zygomatic arch often involve the temporal component at or near the zygomaticotemporal suture, and inferior viewing makes the relationship to the mandibular condyle and articular eminence easier to teach without conflating it with the malar prominence of the zygomatic bone.
