Description

Quarter-sectioning the testis exposes the tunica albuginea encasing lobules of seminiferous tubules, with septa radiating toward the mediastinum testis and rete testis region. Along the posterior border, the epididymis lies posterolateral to the testicular parenchyma, its head positioned superiorly and its body and tail descending inferiorly toward the ductus deferens. Blue venous channels representing the testicular vein and pampiniform plexus track superiorly toward the spermatic cord, accompanied by the testicular artery (red) and autonomic nerves (yellow) arranged in close, longitudinal bundles. Venous anatomy matters most when you are teaching or planning around varicocele and scrotal pain workups, because dilation of the pampiniform plexus alters local thermoregulation and can correlate with subfertility. This cut also clarifies why torsion is a vascular emergency: twisting of the spermatic cord compromises venous outflow early, so congestion and hemorrhagic infarction can precede arterial cessation and distort the relationship between the testis, epididymis, and cord. A clean internal view makes the venous course easier to trace than in an external dissection plate. Good orientation helps.
