Description
Medial aspect of the male upper limb is rendered with emphasis on the posterior compartment of the arm, where the triceps brachii long head descends from the infraglenoid tubercle along the medial border of the humerus and converges distally with the lateral and medial heads into a common tendon. The tendon passes posterior to the elbow joint and inserts on the olecranon process of the ulna, lying superficial to the posterior elbow capsule and adjacent to the medial epicondyle. Anteriorly, the biceps brachii and brachialis occupy the flexor compartment, while the medial intermuscular septum forms a clear boundary between flexor and extensor groups. Medial viewing clarifies relationships that matter in practice: the ulnar nerve courses posterior to the medial epicondyle into the cubital tunnel, close to the medial head of triceps and the triceps tendon insertion. A tight distal triceps tendon, snapping triceps, or postsurgical scarring after ulnar nerve transposition can irritate this nerve and reproduce paresthesias in the ring and small fingers. Posterior elbow injections, olecranon bursitis surgery, and distal humerus fracture approaches all benefit from a clean mental map of the triceps footprint on the olecranon and its proximity to medial neurovascular structures.
