Description

Entering through the cardia, the animation tracks into the gastric lumen and then holds a cut section that exposes the fundus, body, and pyloric region in sequence, orienting the lesser curvature medially and the greater curvature laterally as the organ subtly rotates. Rugae rise from the mucosa into the lumen and flatten toward the antrum, while the wall layers read from inside out as mucosa, submucosa, muscularis externa, and serosa. Distally, the pyloric antrum narrows into the pyloric canal and ends at the pylorus, where the circular layer of the muscularis externa thickens into the pyloric sphincter. Clear landmarks. Gastric wall anatomy matters when you need to explain why pathology behaves differently in the mucosa versus deeper layers, or why a lesion at the lesser curvature can bleed briskly from branches of the left and right gastric arteries. By moving through the lumen and pausing on the sectional edge, the sequence makes it easier to teach how rugae pattern, mucosal folds, and wall thickness change from fundus to pylorus, something that is harder to communicate with a single static plate. Surgical correlations sit naturally here: sleeve gastrectomy follows the greater curvature and leaves a tubular lumen, while antrectomy or pyloroplasty targets the distal stomach and pyloric canal where narrowing and delayed gastric emptying occur. Ideal for GI anatomy lectures, endoscopy and upper GI series teaching files, and patient-facing explanations of peptic ulcer disease, gastritis, and distal gastric outlet obstruction in clinical education modules. Publishers can also pair the cut section with procedural narratives for partial gastrectomy and bariatric surgery planning. Anatomical accuracy verified by SciePro's Medical Advisory Board.
