Description
Frontal and lateral radiographic views track the male larynx from the hyoid bone superiorly to the cricoid cartilage inferiorly, with the thyroid cartilage forming the anterior framework around the airway column. As the sequence advances, a malignant soft-tissue mass emerges along the laryngeal lumen, narrowing the air stripe at the level of the supraglottis and glottis where the epiglottis, aryepiglottic folds, and true vocal folds define the inlet and rima glottidis. Cervical vertebral bodies remain posterior landmarks while the lesion’s contour is appreciated in profile, clarifying its anterior versus posterior extension and any inferior spread toward the subglottis and proximal trachea. Scale cues in the animation emphasize apparent tumor size relative to the laryngeal cartilages. Hoarseness, odynophagia, and progressive dyspnea often bring these patients to clinic, and radiographic airway narrowing can be the first clue to an obstructing laryngeal carcinoma when endoscopic visualization is delayed.
