Description
Beginning at the right iliac fossa, the animation tracks the cecum and ascending colon as they course superiorly along the right lateral abdominal wall toward the hepatic flexure beneath the inferior surface of the liver. Continuity through the transverse colon is then followed across the upper abdomen to the splenic flexure, after which the descending colon runs inferiorly along the left flank before curving into the sigmoid colon and rectum within the pelvis. As each segment is introduced in sequence, haustra and the overall caliber of the large intestine remain visible to reinforce segment-to-segment continuity and orientation. Key turns are emphasized. Colon segmentation is not academic trivia, it is how endoscopists, radiologists, and surgeons communicate location, risk, and approach.
