Sweeping from distal extremities toward the root of the neck, the animation traces superficial and deep lymphatic collecting vessels as they accompany major venous pathways back to the central circulation in an adult male. Along the lower limb, collectors ascend from the dorsal foot and leg toward the popliteal region and inguinal pathways, then continue with iliac trunks toward the lumbar lymphatic trunks and cisterna chyli in the upper abdomen. From there, the thoracic duct courses superiorly through the posterior mediastinum, crossing from right to left and terminating at the left venous angle (junction of the left internal jugular and subclavian veins), while the right lymphatic duct drains the right upper quadrant to the right venous angle. Flow runs proximodistally in reverse of venous return. Valves define the direction. Clinical teaching benefits from seeing the whole route in sequence because lymphatic obstruction rarely respects a single compartment, and edema patterns make sense only when you track drainage territories to their terminal ducts.
