Description
Running along the anterior thigh, the quadriceps femoris dominates the field, with rectus femoris centered superficially between vastus lateralis laterally and vastus medialis medially. Superiorly, the proximal muscle bellies approach the hip and groin, where the anterior compartment blends toward the iliopsoas region and the anterior superior iliac spine area as common surface landmarks. Distally, the quadriceps converge into the quadriceps tendon over the patella, continuing as the patellar ligament to the tibial tuberosity at the anterior knee. Fascial boundaries are implied by the compartmental “sheath,” framing the large anterior partition of the thigh.
