Description
Shown from an anterior perspective, the brachial fascia forms a continuous investing sheath around the arm, spanning from the deltoid region and axilla proximally toward the cubital fossa distally. Deep to this fascial sleeve, the biceps brachii occupies the anterior compartment, with the brachialis lying immediately deep to it against the anterior humerus, while the triceps brachii sits posteriorly and is only hinted at along the lateral and posterior contours in this view. Distally, the fascial continuity transitions into the antebrachial fascia over the forearm, where superficial flexor muscle bellies and their tendons converge toward the wrist, and the metacarpals and phalanges provide bony reference through the semi-transparent rendering. Spatial relationships read cleanly, medial to lateral, from the bicipital region toward the radial side of the forearm and hand. Brachial fascia matters because it defines the compartments of the arm and constrains volume when bleeding or edema occurs. Trauma-related hematoma, reperfusion injury, or exertional swelling can raise intracompartmental pressure, and decompressive fasciotomy relies on understanding where the investing fascia is thickest and how it relates to the medial and lateral intermuscular septa and the bicipital groove region. This view also supports teaching the pathway of neurovascular structures that course deep to fascia and between muscles, including the brachial artery and median nerve in the medial bicipital sulcus and the cephalic vein running superficially in the lateral deltopectoral and arm region. Fascia is a surgical plane.
